Pre-Reading

1. I think the book will be about a repressive society in which everyone is assigned a role because of genetics or an ability test. I also think Jonas is the one who has to receive the information about the past and the true pleasure and pain of life and The Giver is the one who holds this information.
2. I think what Lowry means with the dedication: "For all the children to whom we entrust the future.", is that the future depends on the new generations. Lowry also means that by reading this book children will realize what would happen if some of the small problems we have in our society were to get out of control. Another important message of this dedication is that children should now and question the problems in our society so that one day those problems can be fixed
3. I think what will happen in this book is that when Jonas learns from The Giver he will start to desire the lost meaning of life and that will be a problem to the society.
